Do you know how to unlock and play region locked dvds on the Sony ubp x700

This was promised to get a uk release but then it was Cancelled

I like watching movies, especially blockbuster demo worthy movies at the best 4k quality. I know already that 4k blu rays beat 4k streaming because of compression. What I am not sure about is when at movie comes out only on 1080p blu ray of it is better than 4k streaming. You should some day camporee 1080pblu ray vs 4k streaming. I don't know which to buy. I did watch Imacculate yesterday on blu ray and it sounded amazing. I think it was dts X.

Good video! I've thought about this myself as well and not sure if it makes sense for me to start backing up my physical media. I'm only just starting collecting but I thought having a plex server would be fun in conjunction to my physical collection but the more I think about it the more I realize it's probably not the right move for me right now. I have 1 TV in my house - the same TV that I watch my physical collection on. So why even do it? Sure I could share the digital collection with other but that means dozens/potentially hundreds of hours ripping and then a few hundred on hard drive space, a ripper, premium Plex account etc. For now i'll jus spend that money on the movies maybe one day it will make more sense to start a server for my collection.

Normally I don't leave disparaging comments, but I did try to warn you at the time not to rebrand and pivot (comment thread on a community post). That said, glad you've figured out what viewers actually want, and I've re-subscribed. I look forward to more physical media coverage, and you can always branch out within that scope too (ie. industry, manufacturing, etc.)

do all of these actually look significantly better in 4k? like 2001? i bought the maltese falcon and thought i might as well have bought the dvd.

I support bootlegs, especially if there are no other options. Heck, sometimes the bootlegs are even better than the actual releases. In my case, I love my bootleg bluray copies of the original Evangelion series/films cuz they have the original voices and Fly Me To The Moon.

Did you compare GOT The Long Night how it's now on MAX in 4K? Because I recently rewatched the entire series on MAX and it looks spectacular for a streaming service. All those criticisms you had on your previous video are no longer valid, imho.

Disappointed they only did the Final Cut of Blade Runner in 4k. I prefer the commentary that Decker gives.

I do prefer the actual DVD over streaming any day, but most times I do stream. For TV shows I go streaming to much hassle flipping through all the seasons on disk. Audio is always better on the actually DVD for movies.

And now they’ve got a Friday the 13th box set for like $30. Dug this video.

Logan’s run is coming up on 25th, I would love to see that on 4k. Gravity is another one though not as old.

Hey Jeff, I feel that streaming is best when you are traveling and can't take your physical media discs with you if you have so many. But in your home you have better access to your discs. Most people have big flat screen TV's and blu-ray and 4k blu-ray is best for in the home on a screen like that. Besides, streaming is the easiest way to take a lot of movies with you without having a ton of discs or a big disc player. And most people use a cell phone or tablet to watch streaming media on. And the quality of streaming looks plenty good for a screen that small.

hi jeff, just came across and watched your feature here... it's great and informative! PS3 was my first blu-ray player and i'm not even a gamer, because at that time circa 2007/8, PS3 being the cheapest blu-ray player in the market in my country so that is the only blu-ray player I could afford. So i bought most of my blu-ray discs from Amazon when they regularly offered BOGO or Buy 2 Free 1 deals and during Black Friday. This one time I ordered Will Smith's I Am Legend on blu-ray but Amazon mistakenly sent me a HD-DVD format instead. After a few words with its customer service, they finally sent me a fresh copy of blu-ray without having to return the HD-DVD. I still kept a copy of that HD-DVD unwrapped!

💯 I cancelled all my subscription. Only take a month on demand and most of the time I watch my physical media stuff.

I stream movies I only intend to watch once and buy discs of the films I love to rewatch.

Great video and well balanced Jeff! Was covered very briefly but not everyone has the space in their home to build a physical media collection, especially if you live in shared accomodation, live in a flat, have kids, etc. Also, something else you briefly touched on but i think it was worth making more of a thing of. You never really own anything digital. Content moves around from service to service and even if you "bought" a film say on Apple TV, there's nothing stopping them removing that film in a few years. Although I doubt that actually happens much.

For me the number one advantage of physical is future censorship. The way things are going would anyone be surprised if in the future a movie like Full Metal Jacket gets heavily edited on streaming?

I sold my collection a couple of years ago because I just don’t sit and watch movies like I used to in college. I play video games more. But I am still pro disc and love finding second hand games at flea markets and retro game stores. But I do like digital for its convenience and steam sales or PS or Xbox sales are nice too but like when it comes to movies like I said, I just don’t watch them a lot so streaming works for me but I do think physical should be an option for people to have their favorite movies on hand.

The 4K looks a lot better than the bluray. Dolby Vision is the best.

I have a 65 inch hi sense 4k tv with hdr and a ps5. Some of the 4ks disc I buy are so so dark. Terminator dark fate was almost unwatchable. Ready player one also seemed very dark.

I own every one of them except Glory, which I will rectify. I can't argue with your picks at all, wonderful. 🍻
